Hangover cure products are the new craze nowadays and products like Party Patch Hangover Defense claims that it “dramatically reduces the physical side effects of alcohol”.

With so many new products emerging in the market, it’s hard to choose which one is best for you.

Naturally, we were interested to find out more about Party Patch to see whether it actually works for hangovers.

We assess this by looking at company reputation, customer reviews and most importantly, product ingredients.

Marketing aside, the ingredients will determine whether Party Patch is worth investing in.

Generally speaking, we much prefer hangover pills and drinks to patches because they are a lot more effective with a wider range of ingredients.

That said, we still wanted to see what Party Patch has to offer.

Party Patch Ingredients

Looking at their formula, Partch patch has four ingredients.

Vitamin B1, B5, and B6
The B-complex vitamins are important when it comes to supporting your livers normal metabolism of alcohol. These vitamins are the co-factors required to restore and regenerate the enzymes used to break down alcohol.

To put it simply, during periods of over-indulgence, these enzymes are saturated leading to a build-up of alcohol and its toxic by-products.

Taurine
You may be familiar with this amino acid that’s included in most energy drinks. It’s said to increase energy levels when combined with caffeine.

Party patch use only include 16mg of taurine which is very small. To put it into perspective, energy drinks contain around 50mg and some hangover supplements usually contain over contain 100mg.

What’s missing?

We personally like to see the following ingredients included when choosing a hangover supplement:

Dihydromyricetin (DHM)
All of the best hangover supplements contain DHM nowadays following recent research that has shown it increases the rate at which your liver clears alcohol from your bloodstream. If you’re searching for a top product, DHM is an important ingredient to look out for.

Milk Thistle
Used for centuries to help with hangovers, milk thistle is another ingredient that’s hailed for its antioxidant properties. You’ll find it in any liver health supplement as it’s been shown in studies to reduce inflammation and promote healing.

Ginger
Hangovers are often associated with nausea and ginger is one of the only research-backed natural sickness remedies.

Vitamins B2 and B3
Party Patch has included some B vitamins but for some reason have missed out B2 and B3 which are as crucial as the others. For example, vitamin B3 is a crucial cofactor required to regenerate NADH which is one of the steps in the metabolism of alcohol.

Other than the ones mentioned above, there are many other ingredients that are good for hangovers including turmeric, prickly pear, L-theanine and N-acetyl-cysteine to mention a few.

You can read more about them in our article about vitamins that are good for hangovers.

How do you use party patch hangover defense?

The manufactures recommend applying the Party Patch just before your first drink and keeping it on for 8 hours.

The reason is, the ingredients need to work as soon as the toxic by-products of alcohol start to build up. There’s no use applying it in the morning when you’re already hungover.

By this stage, it’s already too late, unfortunately.

Are there any side effects?

Generally speaking, B vitamins and taurine at the doses included in Party Patch are safe to use. Side effects at these doses will be very rare.

The only downside is the adhesive sticker used to apply the patch. Skin irritation or even allergies reactions to adhesive tape are not uncommon.

If you’re someone who reacts badly to plasters or dressings, you may want to be more careful when thinking of using Party Patch.

Party patch customer reviews

At the time of writing, Party Patch has 88 customer reviews with an average score of 3.9 out of 5.

Anything else to consider?

Sticking to the basics by drinking plenty of water and eating a meal before going out can go a long way in preventing severe hangovers.

If you’re looking for a “hangover cure”, you’ll be disappointed with any of the hangover supplements on the market.

However, if you’re looking for a supplement that can potentially help support your liver function and aid recovery, then these supplements may be worth investing in.
